Unique LA Holiday Show 2010

Jake & Micah had a great weekend at Unique LA’s 3rd Annual Holiday Show. These shows are always exhausting to prepare for, setup and do but in the end it was worth it. We sold out of sushi halfway through the weekend and inventory on many of our other items was severely depleted. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say “hi” and support us!

Frantic holiday sales are finally beginning to wind down here and boy do I need a break! In fact I was able to start some holiday baking this week … something I really enjoying doing this time of year. I have to admit that this time of year makes me miss my baking assistant Jake. As you can see from this photo and post back in ’08 when he was just beginning to feel sick, he still had a sweet tooth.

Unique LA Holiday Show 2010

Jake & Micah will be exhibiting again at the 3rd Annual Unique LA Holiday Show! The show is this Sat and Sun, Dec 11th and 12th at the California Mart downtown LA. Please be sure to stop by out table! We’ll be located at table T33 near the center of the penthouse. The holiday show especially is always  a lot of fun! This is our 3rd year in a row. There will be FREE DRINKS, amazing food vendors, Oh Snap will have a photo booth and there will be an Amoeba Records pop up shop again.

Unique LA Spring 2010

Jake & Micah was an exhibitor at the 2nd Annual Unique LA Spring Gift Show this past weekend. As most of you know, we’ve been preparing like crazy. (Thus the infrequency of blog posts.) This is also the first show where I unveiled the newly designed Jake & Micah table setup.

Everything fit perfectly!

This tree branch display was the root of most of my pre-show stress. I knew in my mind what I wanted it to look like and how I intended it to function but I just needed to figure out how to do it! In the end it turned out almost as exactly as I hoped. It drew attention to the table while enabling me to display my bags of organic catnip and small promotional items like magnets and button pins in an interesting way.

My new display pieces are lightweight (YAY!) making my setup and transportation of everything easy and less back breaking…

You should recognize these trays that double as cat beds in their down time. I love that they hold tons of product and showcase everything fabulously!

Boomerangs and Swiss Rolls!

The show was a success! Jake & Micah was in a fabulous location in front of the windows where it was bright and sunny all day. I also happened to be in between all the yummy food vendors and the free drink bar guaranteeing loads of foot traffic in front of the table.

Unique Los Angeles Spring 2010

Once again I’ve been working myself ragged getting prepared for the Unique Los Angeles 2nd Annual Spring Show 2010. This is the first Spring show I’ll be participating in even though I’ve done both the previous Unique Holiday shows. I’ve been working about 18 hrs a day but I’m in pretty decent shape. This year I opted for a tabletop setup so I needed to rework my display in order to fit everything on a 6′ table. I think I have all the kinks worked out and I’ll be sure to post photos of the actual event. It’s going to look a little different as I completely streamlined things but I think it’s a new look that will present our products fabulously! In the meantime here’s a preview. As you may notice my new displays are very cat friendly. In fact I can’t keep them off of them!

Unique Los Angeles Holiday 2009

So I’ve wrapped up the Unique Los Angeles Holiday show! It was a lot of fun despite all the hard work and back breaking labor that goes into doing a show. Yes, the economy does appear to be down… People are a bit more discretionary in what they want to buy but I met some wonderful cat owners of both Siamese and Bengal cats!!

Highlights of the show:
#1)The 2 people who wanted to take my Catnip Love proof book I made that has photos of cats playing and using Jake & Micah toys and products.
#2) People who would “touch” the real Chinese fortune cookies I brought as giveaways to customers that were clearly labeled and ask what they were. Then try to put them back! GROSS! You touched it with your filthy hand. No you didn’t buy anything. Do you think another person wants to put that in their mouth now? Reminds me of the communal bar peanut bowl that I NEVER snack from!

Overall I really like doing the Unique LA show because it’s organized well and it’s a fun show to do and meet nice people. I’m also proud to announce that this is the first show where I sold at least one of every single item I offer, even the magnets and pins!! It’s a complete 180 from the show I did last summer where everyone was whiny, insulting and annoying. I just wish I didn’t have to work it and could actually “shop” the show too!

Unique Los Angeles Holiday 2009

I know I haven’t been the best blogger lately. I’ve been working myself ragged getting prepared for the Unique Los Angeles 2nd Annual Holiday Show that’s scheduled for this weekend!! I’ve been working about 18 hrs a day but I’m happy to say that I’m in good shape and just about everything I need done… is done. I’ll be sure to post photos of the Jake & Micah booth and compose a full review of everything that happened while I was there. I also promise to get back to better blog posts in upcoming weeks. I just haven’t had enough time to dedicate to meaningful posts or photo taking. :)

Jake & Micah Booth at Unique Los Angeles

The Jake & Micah booth at the Unique Los Angeles Design & Gift Show!
The frosted lucite walls and individual track lighting for each booth gave the show a uniquely polished, modern and high-end feel while providing the ideal blank canvas for each vendor to create a personalized look. It was held in the penthouse loft of the California Market Center complete with panoramic metro views of downtown Los Angeles.
I also rented a wall mounted display shelf which allowed the booth to have a bit of a “shop” feel. It was a great place to display cookie jars chock full of cookies and takeout packages ideal for gift giving.

MAKI SUSHI!!!

Getting everything to fit on the table without looking overcrowded was a little bit of a challenge but overall the Jake & Micah catnip “buffet” received loads of wonderful compliments!

Unique Los Angeles Holiday 2008

This weekend (Dec 13/14) Jake & Micah will be exhibiting at the UNIQUE LOS ANGELES Independent Design and Gift Sale from 11AM – 7PM. The two day event is being held at the very cool California Market Center in Downtown L.A. The event is going to be just fabulous! The location is awesome and the caliber of vendors is phenomenal. I’m looking forward to holiday shopping myself while I’m there…

This will be my second show ever and my last show for 2008. I know I haven’t posted pictures from the last show I did but only because I planned to do this show and wanted to improve upon a few things before the unveil. (perfectionist that I am) Following this show, I’ll be sure to post photos and let you all know how the weekend went. ~Mei
