Stray Kitty Sighting!

Looks who’s back! It’s been about 6 weeks since I first saw this guy in our backyard. I was just sitting in my office having some morning coffee when I saw him wandering around the pool again.

He walked around stared right at us then wandered off. I suspect this guy must have a home somewhere nearby if he’s still wandering around coyote country. He is just too cute!

Unique LA Holiday Show 2010

Jake & Micah had a great weekend at Unique LA’s 3rd Annual Holiday Show. These shows are always exhausting to prepare for, setup and do but in the end it was worth it. We sold out of sushi halfway through the weekend and inventory on many of our other items was severely depleted. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say “hi” and support us!

Frantic holiday sales are finally beginning to wind down here and boy do I need a break! In fact I was able to start some holiday baking this week … something I really enjoying doing this time of year. I have to admit that this time of year makes me miss my baking assistant Jake. As you can see from this photo and post back in ’08 when he was just beginning to feel sick, he still had a sweet tooth.

Evening at the Stray Cat Club

This upcoming Saturday we’ll be attending the Evening at the Stray Cat Club Halloween Party for the first time! The event is hosted by the Stray Cat Alliance and all proceeds go to solving the homeless cat crisis. Stray Cat Alliance is committed to the care and protection of the forgotten strays and feral cats living in the shadows of our world. Their programs are a large piece of the puzzle in creating a No Kill Nation, where a home is found for every healthy or treatable companion animal, feral cats are fixed and properly cared for, and sterilization is readily available. They also contribute to caring for feral cat colonies. To learn more about them please visit their website or become a fan on Facebook and if any of you live in the Los Angeles area you should consider attending too and supporting a fabulous cat cause!

I’ll be sure to take lots of photos at the event to share with you next week. In fact Jake & Micah donated the two fantastic gift baskets below that will be auctioned off at the event.  The first one I named the Lucky Fortune Catnip Toy gift basket and the second one I named the Super Sushi Catnip Toy gift basket. Both are packed with tons of Jake & Micah organic catnip toys and gift items. I heard that both baskets will also be available to bid online as well in case any of you are interested. Once I get more info, I’ll be sure to share that with you all too!

Jake & Micah Premiere the Santa Monica Cat Club

This weekend Jake & Micah made their 1st appearance at the Santa Monica Cat Club’s CFA cat show.

I used the same setup that I designed for the Unique show in April. It was a long weekend of setting up and breaking down so forgive me for not taking more photos. I figure you got a good look at the table in my previous post. I used basically the same setup. The weekend like any show weekend was long and exhausting but I met some great vendors and lots of super customers. After day one I deduced that the average cat show attendee falls into one of two categories. A) The stereotypical “crazy” cat person. I didn’t sell very much to those people. They tend to be a little antisocial and cheap and don’t really see value in expensive, frivolous, dumb cat toys in the form of human foods. They totally go for the traditional junk you see that reminds you of a crazy cat person. There were also people who thought that $5 is too expensive for a cat toy. I admit my stuff isn’t as cheap as the $2 stuff made in China but they are handmade and these are the same people writing checks for $600 purebred cats, $200 cat trees and buying sandwiches and salads to eat there for $7 a piece… WHATEVER! The second group of people fall into category B) The younger, hipper, modern cat person who loved the colors, fabrics and product presentation and likes to spoil their cat while treating themselves to something that makes them happy. Meeting those people really made my two days worthwhile! There were some shades of grey in between (some great older people who liked the toys too) but people either absolutely loved it or just didn’t get it. No one was blatantly rude or nasty like they were at last year’s Renegade Show so it was a pleasant show to do. The fun thing was that everyone there was pretty much a cat fanatic and I got to see and share cat photos with everyone because everyone had photos of their babies and lots of funny and sad stories to tell. Seriously there was no feeling too strange for being obsessed with cats around this crowd!

I attended last year’s show as a visitor and it was pretty interesting. This year I realized how fun it can be if you make an entire a day of it. There is judging for 8 hours straight and all the cats are absolutely gorgeous! They have tons of cat vendors selling everything cat from tee shirts to artwork to just about every cat tchotchke imaginable. You could go pretty wild if you really wanted to. I also LOVE seeing the Burmese, Tonkinese, Maine Coons and especially the British Short Hair cats. Those chubby grey “bears” are totally irresistible! I took photos of a lot of beautiful cats so I’ll share some of them with you now…

Tonkinese kitten… so cute!

Another gorgeous Tonk!

I’m not quite sure… Turkish Angora maybe? Comment if you have an idea.

Again I can’t remember. This may have been one of the Household cats.

I think she is a Ragdoll…? I should have taken notes…

Judging of a gorgeous Maine Coon… I want one someday! They totally look like little lions!

I don’t normally go for the Persians but this one looked like a cotton ball she was so cute!

I don’t know what kind of cat this guy is… but I loved the eyes.

Burmese!!

I wish this photo was a bit clearer but he was moving around playing. He was the cutest, chubbiest, little cobby “bear”!! I really really want a British Shorthair someday… along with my Maine Coon. His face reminds me of my chubby little bear — Micky!

Jake & Micah Office Remodel… Two Years Later

After trying to make due with the bookshelves I had for 6 years and my office space limitations, I finally got new bookcases. These are from Ikea and I added drawers to the bottom row for more much needed storage space. It was a great opportunity for me to do some summer cleaning and get things reorganized. As  you can see, Micky thinks the new office way cool. You might remember I remodeled the opposite side of the room a couple years ago. Here is that post.

There is space for my fabric, books and office supplies plus much needed additional desktop space.

The space doubles as another sleeping surface for cats, as if they didn’t have enough places already!
