Micky’s Sweet Tooth

I baked a fig galette for the first time this weekend and realized that someone in our house has a sweet tooth! I snapped this photo of that someone being naughty although he would consider it being helpful. Micky’s love of baked goodies reminds me very much of Jake. Jake loved cookies, especially coconut and oatmeal. During the winter holidays Jake would practically go out of his mind jumping onto the kitchen counter to inspect batches of christmas cookies. Micky’s photo with the fig galette is the updated version of Jake’s photo from nearly two years ago.

In case you’d like to make a fig galette of your own, here is a link to the recipe I used online. I used Trader Joe’s frozen pie crust with blackberry jam because I don’t care for orange marmalade. It was a snap to make and turned out quite delicious along with a small scoop of ice cream – but of course Micky could have told you that!

Tall Drink of Mojito

Fresh summer spearmint…very much like catnip.

A cool and refreshing Mojito….mmmmm

Hi meowmy, I’m not tipsy but you are.

This heat is exhausting.

The temperatures our here in Los Angeles have been really hot this weekend. So what’s the perfect way to unwind on a Sunday afternoon? Why cool refreshing Mojitos of course! Luckily for me we have fresh Spearmint growing in the yard (not sure where it came from) but purr-fect for me! I found this Original Bacardi Mojito recipe online and decided to try my hand at making some. So sweet, minty and refreshing you don’t realize how much alcohol they have in them – hehehe. So meowmy did some relaxing while Jake & Micah enjoyed the outdoors a bit. A wonderful end to a hot summer weekend.

Yummy Homemade Cat Food

Start with cooked fresh ground chicken

Set aside cooked brown rice and canned peas

Add browned chicken livers – STINKY

The finished product! Bon Appetite!

Mommy you make the yummiest food!

I began experimenting with homemade cat food about a year ago during the Pet Food Recall scare. I used a combination of recipes from natural pet food books I have and through trial and error perfected a recipe that even finicky Micah enjoys. I make what we call Momma’s Wet Food about every 2 weeks. We ran out a couple days ago so it was time to make pet food again today. The recipe includes just a few simple ingredients and is human grade so it’s very healthy and super yummy. Cooking the liver is a bit stinky but it drives the cats wild when I cook it!

The recipe includes 1 lb. fresh ground chicken, 1 lb. fresh chicken livers (this makes the food stinky and cats sometimes need stinky to get them interested), 1 cup cooked brown rice, and 1/2 cup canned peas (I’ve also used grated carrots if I have them) I brown the meat and liver separately in a skillet on the stove. I add a little water to the chicken while browning and coat the skillet with some vegetable oil when I cook the livers. Once cooked, I run the meat through a food processor and mix with the brown rice and peas. On average this will make about 8-10 cups of cooked wet food. You can freeze into portions if you choose and simply defrost in the refrigerator as needed. I zap the food in the microwave a bit before I serve it to the boys and they just LOVE it!
