Jonah Boomerangs!

Jonah lounges in his mid century modern Boomerang pet bed by Like Kittysville. If you remember I bought this bed last year for Jake and Micah. Jonah inherited it from Micah when he moved in. Jayne is a good friend and I’ve heard rumors of a elevated pet seat are in the works. *wink wink* I can’t wait for the design to be purrfected!

Change Your Life…

Get this! It’s the Pledge Fabric Sweeper for Pet Hair and it’s AMAZING! It makes cleaning cat hair fun. We have lint rollers in every room. All I need is one of these. It’s faster and more efficient. It’s also perversely thrilling to actually see all the hair and debris it picks up through the transparent dome handle. Yeah I’m pretty sick. At around $3.50 it’s SO much better than those crappy lint rollers where you have to use 10 sheets to clean just the couch. Amen.

Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World

READ THIS BOOK! I loved it. It’s the heartwarming tale of Dewey, an abandoned marmalade kitten not only beloved by the library director who finds him but by the entire town of Spencer, Iowa who adopt him as their bibliocat.

Any cat lover who has shared a powerful and life affecting relationship with a cat companion will be able to relate to this book. The stories are precious and the ending is a real tearjerker. Dewey was indeed a truly special cat.

Jonah’s New Hepper

I’ve been eyeing Hepper beds for awhile now so I finally decided to get one for the cats for Christmas. I seriously doubted that Jake would really use any pet specific bed since he prefers human furniture but Jonah loves to hide and sleep in confined spaces. I took a chance that he’d enjoy the Hepper Nest. Jonah loves to play hide and seek in his bed and take snoozes in it during the day. Shipping was quick and very reasonable and now all the beds come with a removeable interior pad that’s reversible and washable for easy cleaning! It was tough deciding on what color to choose but spring bud green is a clean fresh color that goes well in many of our rooms!

Fling-ama-String Addicts

Sorry it’s taken me awhile to get this post up. I needed to get the videos uploaded so you could all see the boys play with the Fling ama String firsthand. This toy continues to be a big hit 10 days later…

12/30/08 – It finally arrived! Mommy is always late with our Christmas gifts because she can never decide what to get… well today when we woke up from our naps she led us to her office. Then she unleashed the crazy string game. She says it’s official name is the Fling-ama-String. Whatever you call it, this thing drives me and my brother CRAZY! When she first turned it on he totally pushed me out of the way to investigate. (Just like a rude big brother huh?) After he nearly “got” the thing he gave me a chance. Now all I a do it sit in front of it waiting for the string even if it’s not on. Mommy says I have an unhealthy fixation. It’s the perfect toy for me because I’m a super active kitty who really tires mommy out sometimes with all the playing I require. ~Jonah Cat

Jake’s Drinkwell Plantinum Pet Fountain

Cats especially those diagnosed with Feline CRF need to drink a lot of water. Cats are attracted to running water because it’s cooler and fresher than standing water. Studies show that cats drink something like 2.5 times more water if it’s running compared to still water in a bowl. Jake personally likes to drink (and play with) running water. Jake & Micah already enjoy a Catit® Drinking Fountain in the kitchen. After Jake was diagnosed with CRF, I wanted to get a second pet fountain for times when the boys are alone at home with no one to turn on a faucet so I purchased a Drinkwell® Platinum Pet Fountain.

The difference between the Catit fountain and the Drinkwell Platinum is that the Drinkwell fountain operates more like a faucet. Some cats (like Jake) prefer to drink from a stream of water like this. So here’s a quick rundown:

• Both fountains filter water and add oxygen.
• The Drinkwell holds one full gallon of water so it doesn’t require as frequent refilling as the Catit which has a three liter capacity.
• The Catit is a little easier to clean (I think) and has a more eye pleasing design in my opinion but it really comes down to how your cat prefers to drink water. (Jake prefers the Drinkwell but Micah likes both)
• The Drinkwell utilizes a stream of water while the Catit has water that runs over a plastic dome into a bowl.

We put the Drinkwell fountain in the family room and this new location combined with the novelty of running water makes it the main attraction in the house. After meals there’s a queue of cats waiting to get a turn to drink. All in all both fountains get plenty of use which is what really all that matters.

Jake & Micah Enjoy Like Kittysville

Our custom Like Kittysville pet bed arrived about a week ago. It was a very exciting event and the boys participated in the opening and testing of the bed. The box itself was worthy of thorough investigation as you see here.

Once it was explained that the BED and not the box was the main attraction, they took to checking that out more closely or shall we say what might be found BENEATH the bed...

Nothing…now what do we do with THAT??

Eventually Jake & Micah figured out that it’s a bed and have been taking turns enjoying it. Micah especially likes it since he prefers to lean against something when he sleeps or rests. The bed’s molded seat makes the perfect cradle shape and is a proven hit. The lightly cushioned form is the perfect combination of soft yet firm. The beds are offered with a wide selection of wood base stains sure to match any decor. As you can see here, the clear stain is an exact match to the maple finish of my desks. Beautifully constructed, Like Kittysville beds are truly one-of-a-kind works of art and examples of modern design at it’s best!

Like Kittysville – We Likee!!!

I discovered Like Kittysville beds on Ebay and immediately found them irresistible! From the clean retro modern boomerang shape to the vintage decorator fabrics, these beds are truly one of a kind. Reminiscent of danish modern furniture design, they seem like something Eames, Saarinen or Panton would have designed.

I’m currently working with the talented and charming designer of Kittysville, Jayne Blume to create a custom bed for Jake & Micah (in orange!) and will be posting pics of the boys lounging in it as soon as it arrives. For now you can enjoy these photos and check out Like Kittysville online to purchase a retro modern bed of your very own!

Kitty Litter Revisited…

Micah inspects the “facilites”

A few weeks ago I wrote about how I finally found the multi-cat formula of Swheat Scoop cat litter. The clumping and odor controlling capabilities are supposed to be greatly improved. Well here are the results of our usage over the last couple of weeks…

This is a whole new cat litter!! I like Swheat Scoop but I LOVE the new formula even more! It seriously clumps hard like clay litter. The original clumped “alright” but has a tendency to crumble when you scoop. The new multi-cat formula clumps hard and fast and controls odor even more… I like to buy 40 lb bags but the largest I’ve been able to find so far in this formula is 25 lbs. Once I’m able to find 40 lb bags of the multi cat formula somwhere I am going to stock up!

Sweat Scoop Multi-Cat

Jake, Micah and I love Swheat Scoop premium cat litter. So I was excited when I finally found “it” – Swheat Scoop Multi Cat Formula! I’d heard about it but never was able to find a bag. Well today I did! The bag cost about $2 more than the regular formula so we’ll see if it’s worth it. We’ve been using the original formula for about 5 years now. It’s very low dust and great for people and cats with allergies and sinus problems. It’s all-natural being made from natural wheat. It’s completely free of chemicals and is 100% biodegradable. The Multi-Cat version is supposed to clump better (my only complaint on how it could be improved.) Until now I just mix some baking soda into the litter and it sticks less. Review to come!
