The kitties enjoyed the new Peek and Play Toy Box they received for Christmas with Catzilla Crafts‘ Organic Catnip R.O.Y.G.B.I.V. Rainbow Crochet Balls. The crochet balls fit perfectly in the box and all the cats love the size. Fun times!! Five paws up!!
Who doesn’t love looking through old photographs? The embarrassing hairstyles… (especially from the 80s) the horrific dental work… but who can deny the über cool outfits of the 70s. The Histamatic iPhone app is so addictively fun to take photos with you’ll be tempted to snap photos of the most mundane things. Even an ordinary cup of joe looks spectacularly beatnik. So if you own an iPhone – check out the Histamatic app. There is a modest cost to download and the extra lenses and flashes are 99 cents each but the hours of fun you’ll have snapping photos makes it all too worth it. For about $5 you can have a complete setup to snap tons are interesting and artistic photos ready for upload to Facebook, Flickr or Twitter.
I purchased a Dreamy Diana Lens to attach to my digital camera this weekend. It’s a plastic lens you can attach with an adaptor to your SLR digital camera. You get photos similar to the traditional film Diana+ cameras except with more instant gratification of digital and more importantly without having to buy and purchase film.
I had fun photographing the cats. Here are some of the more interesting photos I was able to capture so far… I’m still playing around with it and would like to figure out how to get more unpredictable color but the effects so far are pretty cool.
Today we took the gang outside after we barbecued. Jonah was enjoying the fresh air!
Micky was just itching to use his pet’s eye view camera for the first time in long while…
Mamacita Fionna got to watch from her cat tent. She was happy to be outside too.
I’m thrilled that the spearmint that grows wild in our yard has grown out of control just in time for summertime mojiitos!
Micky was taking his job a little too seriously insisting that he needed to head for higher ground in order to get a better perspective for photographs! Mommy said “no”
Here are some of the Micky’s best shots of the day…
Micky’s perspective when he’s crawling in the bushes.
Micky sees the bright sunshine setting.
That’s the bistro table that no one ever sits at…
Oh no, mommy’s coming… see her foot?
This is the living room after mommy brought Micky back inside but before Micky upchucked from eating too much grass…
And finally this is Micky’s photo of Jonah. They were watching daddy try to get Fionna back in the house. She really wasn’t cooperating very well.
We took all 3 cats outside for a little while this weekend. I hooked the camera up to Micky this time. (I call him our little photo journalist) He seems to have found a possible new career!
Jonah got to go out too…
And so did Fionna but Fionna has to stay in the cat tent. I’ll hook the camera up to her next time so we can get some from inside the tent shots.
Here are a few of the photos Micky took… some plants and flowers….
The sky… I have no idea how he achieved the cool fish eye affect on this one!
An abstract shot… this is a stucco wall.
This is a creepy atmospheric shot of the walkway to the frontyard (AKA- FREEDOM) if they could just get around this fence somehow…
Here is a photo he took of Jonah (blob on the left side) and myself. He managed to take inches off my thighs with his magic camera!
This photo wasn’t taken outside but it’s a very artsy shot of the heel of my shoe that he took when he came back inside the house.
I first learned about pet cameras last year and I’ve been itching to get a camera for my gang but the initial prototypes were a bit expensive and the reviews on them were mixed in terms of durability and usability. Recently they’ve improved the design and the prices have come down quite a bit too. It was the perfect time to buy one for our gang just in time for summer and weekends outside!
Our Pet’s Eye View Camera arrived Tuesday! I purchased it on Amazon and it took a mere 4 days to arrive with free shipping (I bought it along with a book) The key features of the camera are:
Ultra compact durable digital camera
Water resistant, ABS housing
640×480 resolution for 4″x6″ prints
Internal memory stores over 40 photos
Rechargeable battery can operate for up to 20 hours
Auto interval timer (1, 5 or 15 minutes)
Download photos to both PCs and MACs without installation of any software just a USB cable (included)
Right away I noticed how lightweight the camera is. I was concerned about how bulky and cumbersome it would be, but not so! The camera weighs a mere 1.2 oz., is 2″ in diameter and 0.5″ thick. Micky was the first one to test the camera out. Micky wears the camera no problem and takes the most interesting photos. (so far) Fionna was next. Fionna wears it with minimal fussing but her photos are not as interesting as she doesn’t move around very much. The photos depend on how exciting a life you cat leads. I put the camera on Micky in the afternoon when he’s Mister Fussypants. Jonah wore the camera last and surprisingly he disliked wearing the camera the most of the three cats however he’s gotten more used to it over the past day.
I have to admit I’ve been having quite a bit of fun with the camera! It works best in bright daylight because it doesn’t have any kind of flash. Here are some of the more memorable shots so far…
Micky took this photo of their favorite tree. It’s a 300 year old California Oak.
This is a photo of the living room taken by Fionna. She managed to get Jonah’s butt in the shot too.
We took Jonah outside for just a few minutes and he took this shot. I plan to experiment with more outdoor shots this weekend.
Micky captured this interesting action shot of ME! If you look closely you’ll see my legs and my bare foot.
Finally this is a shot that Micky took while watching TV on the floor under the coffee table. Pretty cool huh?
One thing I notice is how frustrating it must be for pets to be so low to the ground. I can understand why they’re always trying to climb on top of things to make them higher. We must seem like giants to them and after editing all the boring shots — I’m not sure if they find life boring or not always staring at the walls and the floor so much…. It’s a very interesting perspective for a change… more photos to come once we have more time with the cats outside.
We’ve been kind of quiet on the blog lately because we’ve been super busy developing new toys this year. One project that has finally come to fruition after a long time of planing are NEW Jake & Micah Organic Catnip Olives. I’ve been wanting to do them for over a year now but just haven’t had the time until now to tackle them. I think these toys are pretty groovy and fun and so does Jonah! He’s thoroughly tested them out! We also wanted to expand our selection of Organic Catnip Boomerangs and have added several new fabric styles to choose from so check out the Jake & Micah website!
At first the cats couldn’t really figure out what the purpose of the sushi handroll was… Micky tried to improvise. It made a nice crinkly blanket to sleep on…
Later that same day he noticed Jonah… he never thought of laying on that end…
Wow… the other side makes a kind of cave that he almost fits inside…
If Jonah almost fits that means Micky will almost fit…
So for the past few days the two boys have been fighting over who gets to sleep inside the sushi handroll. But as with all new fads… here today but gone tomorrow? TBD. I just have to smile though every time I see a Siamese cat napping inside a bed shaped like a sushi handroll.
PROS: Jonah likes it! Jonah likes any laser PERIOD! It’s a lazy-man’s version of a hand held laser toy. It’s esthetically pleasing to the eye with it’s modern space age design.
CONS: Micky prefers the hand held laser. Most of the time he’s distracted by the motorized sound coming from the laser as it’s optical eye rotates. If they can perfect the toy I’d have them try to make the motor quieter. I need to be careful because Micky will stare directly into the light. He also gets up next to the laser and tries to knock it over when I place it on a table. In this video I’m holding it in my hand. As you can see, laser toys are not for Fionna but she sure likes watching her brothers play!
I’ve done a good job and started Christmas Shopping early this year. Usually the cats are receiving their gift between Christmas and New Year’s. Last year the cats received our much loved Moodypet’s Fling ama String toy which is still a big hit and a Hepper Nest Bed.
This year Jonah, Fionna & Micky will be receiving Frolicat’s BOLT™ Interactive Laser toy. I can’t wait to see how the cats react to this one since they love chasing a hand held laser toy. Since I’m a bad mommy and too lazy to play that game with them as often as they’d like, I snagged it on sale at Petco.
I occasionally like to purchase other cat toy makers’ catnip toys especially when they are super cute like this catnip kickin’ stick and catnip eyeballs made by Etsy sellers HannaPT. These are for Jonah so I sure hope he likes them!
Fionna is getting a pink Snuggie™ For Dogs! HAHAHAHA! It’s going to look so cute on her! She has super short fur being a part tropical Asian Leopard cat so she gets chilled easily in the winter. She can enjoy snuggling on the couch in this.
Micky is getting a Sushi Handroll crinkle bed!! Micky loves sleeping in his furry crinkle cat tunnel so I hope he likes this adorable bed too. Maybe even Jonah or Fionna will find it cozy for sleeping! Again I nabbed this on sale at Cost Plus World Market! So tune in after Christmas when I’ll have full reviews of each product along with photos!!
