That Darn Cat!
Ever since I first saw Disney’s movie That Darn Cat! I’ve been a fan. Mind you I’m a fan of the 1965 version not the 1997 remake. The 1965 version features a Siamese cat. The 1997 version does not. It was on t.v. again this weekend so we had to watch it in bed. For some reason it always airs at about 8 AM on Saturdays and I catch it once a year. If you’ve never seen the 1965 version of That Darn Cat! with Hayley Mills you need to watch it. The movie captures all the wonderful qualities of the Seal Point Siamese right down to the adorable “applehead” look that was popular at the time. The cat D.C. (Darn Cat) in the movie is very Jonah-esque. They sell copies of the DVD on Amazon and Ebay. I need to nab myself a copy in fact.
In the 1950s and 60s the Siamese cat was one of the most popular breeds around. They were featured in books, art and movies from that time. Since I love that era – I love the portrayal of the Siamese during that time. I like to collect cat memorabilia from then because more often than not, the cat will be fashioned after a Siamese!
