Back in September we posted about the cats’ weights. Now we have all the cats on EVO brand cat food with pretty good results. EVO is a premium grain-free pet food. Fionna and Micky are happy with the canned and Jonah eats a mix of canned and dry kibble. There are some times when mommy and daddy get busy and they can’t monitor our food portions as well as they’d like but it’s a work in progress.
• Jonah has actually put on a little weight since Sept but he still looks great. He’s very active to begin with and loses weight easily so we’re not too worried about a couple holiday lbs. He went from 10 lbs to 12 lbs.
• Fionna was 13 lbs back in Sept. We’ve managed to slim her down a little and she looks fantastic. We still have a way to go but we’re working on it. Fionna is now between 12 and 12.5 lbs.
• Micky had reached his all time high back in Sept at a hefty 15 lbs. We’ve managed to get him down to 14 lbs since Sept. but he still begs for food ALL THE TIME!
Mommy is starving us! I’ve resorted to raiding the human food pantry looking for munchies. I don’t know how much longer I will last on what this crazy lady thinks she can get away with feeding us. All the food is in cans, boxes or jars which is useless to someone like me with paws who cannot open them. Mommy is actually PLEASED that I’ve lost one half pound!! PLEASE send food now before it’s too late! ~Fionna Feline
Here it is!! This is a video of the Kitty Boot Camp exercise regime I put the gang through 2 to 3 times each day. We run back and forth across the house about 4 or 5 times. By the end of it Micky is so tired he has to lie down. It’s good exercise for everyone even Jonah who can’t help but join in. Shown here in real time you can see it certainly is a “kitty (and human) work out”
I’m a deficient cat mom. I’m feeling pretty depressed about how I’ve allowed two of my “children” to get so fat. It’s entirely my fault. We’ve been tracking the cats’ weight for the past year. At that time Jonah was 10 lbs. Jonah has remained 10 lbs. but he’s the only one. Jonah is the oldest but also the most active and the pickiest eater. Jonah is a pretty large cat so at 10 lbs he looks pretty lean and purr-fect.
Jonah PURR-fect at 10 lbs.
Fionna was 10.5 lbs. a year ago. At one point she was up to about 12 when Jake was alive because we were constantly trying to get weight on him and were feeding the cats 24 hrs a day. After he passed I was able to get her down to 10.5 but she has now ballooned to at least 13 lbs if not more. Fionna should probably be about 8 or 9 lbs based on her size. I doubt I can get her down to that but my goal is to get her back to 10. She’s tiny but a very hearty eater. She’s ALWAYS hungry.
Fionna, this pretty girl needs to lose a few. Think Jennifer Hudson and her commendable weight loss this past year. She went from fabulous to AMAZING just by dropping a few lbs!
Micky looks at me as if to say, why are you starving me mommy? Don’t you love me?
Micky was 12 lbs. when we adopted him a year ago. Now he’s 15 lbs! I know, I’m bad. I think he’s cute when he’s chubby but I also realize it’s terrible for his health. Now it’s getting to the point where he can’t properly clean his backside! He definitely has a poor metabolism for a cat since he was always a bit chubby looking and his sedentary lifestyle sure doesn’t help. I’d love to get him back to 12 lbs. if we can.
Pet obesity is a growing problem in the US, very similar to child and adult obesity. It’s pretty ironic that we have obese cats considering that their parents are the total opposite of obese. We’re practically exercise/health nuts and THIN. So we’re closing the food buffet cold turkey! No more automatic cat feeder! If mom and dad go away they will need to eat when the cat sitter comes in or not at all. I used the feeder for Jonah’s benefit but it’s really harming the other two cats. I’ll be measuring out their food each day and they won’t get one kibble more. They are already on high protein, low calorie weight management food which has seemed to help in the past. I just need to adjust the quantity. We’re also starting an exercise regime. I got more of those fabulous peacock feathers and I run up and down the hallway with Micky and Fionna chasing me. If I’m panting from the workout they must be getting a good workout too! Fionna and Micky are not going to be happy campers though that’s for sure. There is bound to be lots of crying and whining for food in the upcoming weeks.
So… do any of you struggle with an overweight cat? Any tips of suggestions you’d like to share would be greatly appreciated! So this is the start of our Kitty Weight Loss Challenge. We’ll be posting our results going forward. Kind of like The Biggest Loser for cats!
